How to help a friend  Back

Because most abuse occurs in the home behind closed doors, it is difficult to determine just how much of it exists. If you suspect child abuse or domestic violence here’s what you can do to help.

bulletCall our 24-hour support hotline 208-354-SAFE
bulletBelieve the victim’s story
bulletLet them know they are not alone
bulletAssure them they have done nothing wrong and are not to blame for the abuse
bulletRealize the victim may be in danger and often will feel safer than they really are
bulletReport suspected child abuse to the Teton County Sheriff at 354-2323 or the Department of Health and Welfare at 800-752-1412
bulletDON"T offer advice, especially to leave the relationship as this can be dangerous
bulletInstead, encourage the victim to seek help with Family Safety Network by calling our support hotline or our office at 208-354-SAFE
